Sam Seawright celebrates Sunday's $6,024 Winterfest victory.
What won the race: Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., led all 50 laps from the pole to win Sunday's Winterfest at Duck River Raceway Park, topping the 23-car unsanctioned Super Late Model field for a $6,024 payday. Nabbing his first victory of the season, Seawright secured his second straight Winterfest triumph after leading 43 laps to claim last year's $5,000 winner's prize.
Quotable: “First of all, I want to thank Russell (Boothe), because he puts in more effort than any track owner I’ve seen in a while,” Seawright said. “He reworked the whole race track like that for us, because it was probably gonna be, honestly, a terrible race if he didn’t do that. I had to move all over (the track) because the traction kept leaving certain spots and I just knew there was so much grip coming off (turn) two, if I could stay up there, I would probably be alright. Yeah the crew worked hard, I’m just glad we could get the win.”
Key notes: Eleventh-starting Christian Hanger moved into the runner-up spot on a lap-17 restart and trailed Seawright the rest of the way, finishing 3.579 seconds back. ... Third-starting Jadon Frame regained the third position on lap 28 and completed the podium finishers. ... Twelfth-starting Oakley Johns finished fourth after reclaiming the spot on a lap-29 restart. ... Andy Picklesimer pursued Seawright in the opening laps before fading to finish fifth. ... Spencer Hughes and Dalton Cook each improved 11 positions, finishing sixth and seventh. ... Jason Riggs and Matthew Brocato each gained 10 spots, finishing ninth and 10th. ... Chase Oliver challenged inside the top five before slipping to ninth and pulling off the 42nd lap. ... Early top 10 contender Jack Riggs tagged the field for the lap-10 restart and climbing as high 15th before calling it a night on lap 27. ... Donald Johns was swept up in a lap-12 incident that ended his day. ... Sunday's feature lasted 25 minutes, with 10 drivers completing the distance and 14 running at the finish. ... Apparent seventh-place finisher Michael Seibers was disqualified. ... Harrison Mayo scratched from the main event lineup.
On the move: Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Miss., started 17th and finished sixth.
