Jason Feger collected $5,000 for his MARS victory at Fairbury.
What won the race: Taking advantage of a lap-26 bobble by race-long leader Allen Weisser, third-starting Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., used a turn-one slider to take command on his way to winning Saturday's $5,000 MARS Late Model Championship Series portion of the Illinois Dirt Shootout at Fairbury Speedway. Feger notched his second straight MARS victory and the 25th of his career, moving him ahead of National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Billy Moyer and into sole possession of fifth on the tour's all-time win list.
Quotable: “We’ve been really fast on the MARS deal, we just had bad luck with flat tires a couple nights,” Feger said. “Allen (Weisser) messed up there, you know the track was kinda cleaning up and he just messed up and took a push there, probably his right-front was giving up a little bit. I just knew I had to go right then, I mean he’s a heck of a driver, that’s actually my old car so it’s definitely a good car. It feels good to get a win, especially here at Fairbury after letting one slip through our hands there a few weeks ago.”
Key notes: It's Feger's fourth consecutive MARS Series triumph at Fairbury, dating back to May 27, 2023. ... The second-starting Weisser, of Peoria, Ill., led the opening 25 laps before slipping off turn four and giving way to Feger, finishing 0.388 of a second back. ... Ryan Unzicker finished third in a plain black car after thrashing to finish repairing his MB Customs machine following a May 18 crash at Highland (Ill.) Speedway. ... Pole-starting Bob Gardner slipped to a fifth-place result. ... Mike Harrison, whose Steve Lampley-owned Rocket Chassis was not ready following a rollover crash last weekend at Highland, won the $20,000 modified portion. ... The main event was completed without incident and lasted 10 minutes, with 14 competitors completing 40 laps and 18 running at the finish.
On the move: Myles Moos of Lincoln, Ill., started 12th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Jay Dickens Racing Engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Digital Copy Systems, Hoker Trucking, The Big Cheese MM, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Remtek Enterprises, RLM Enterprises, Cheap Cars, FK Rod Ends, Keyser Manufacturing, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, VP Racing Fuels and Griffin Signs.
