What won the race: Leading all but the first lap, Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., dominated Saturday's Schaeffer's Spring Nationals event at Senoia Raceway for a $10,053 payday, his first victory in 13 months. Lapping all but four competitors, Clanton started outside the front row and on the second lap overtook polesitter Chris Madden, who retired on lap 14 with apparent rear suspension damage after contact with a slower car.
Quotable: "We worked our tails off a Capital Race Car to build a new race car here," winner Shane Clanton said. "We didn't show much in Florida (during Speedweeks), but we learned a lot, and to make the right adjustments at the right time and tonight we done that."
Key notes: Clanton grabbed his first victory since Feb. 2, 2021, in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla. ... Leading comfortably most of the way, Clanton's prime scare came on lap 25 as he lapped Florida youngster Tre Mills and the pair made contact near the flagstand. ... Runner-up Dylan Knowles scored his best major-race Super Late Model finish. ... Ashton Winger was running second when he slowed after blowing out his left-rear tire on lap 48. ... Mark Whitener was in danger of going a lap down before the caution for Winger and gained two spots late to finish third. ... Fourth-place finisher Michael Page won the night's Crate Late Model feature. ... Sixteen of 23 starters were running at the finish. ... Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., won his fifth career Spring Nationals main event Friday at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway; Overton didn't complete at Senoia but he traveled to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn., and earned $12,000 in winning a co-sanctioned Ultimate Southeast and Valvoline Iron-Man Series event.
On the move: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., started ninth and finished third for Ocala, Fla.-based Big Frog Motorsports.
Winner's sponsors: Clanton’s Capital Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Skyline Materials, Bennett Explosives, Super K Express, Brown Heavy Equipment, Lucas Products, Truck County, Bruening Rock Products, Olson Explosives, Freeman Plumbing, Hoosier Racing Tire and VP Racing Fuels.
