What won the race: With smoke billowing from his car virtually all race long, Cory Dumpert of Newman Grove, Neb., led all but the first lap Saturday at Boone County Raceway for a $6,002 victory in the third annual Ray Haase Memorial. Dumpert turned back late challenges from fast qualifier Jake Neal, the 10th-starting driver who was a half-second behind at the checkers.
Quotable: "I was nervous because they're was like 20 (laps) to go. The temp gauge went to 280, then back to 160, and we're starting to lock down and the yellows kind of saved it," Dumpert said. "The car owners, before I went out there, told me, go have fun ... we were going to burn this SOB down for these guys. I mean, it's a special event."
Key notes: Cory Dumpert drove the Alex Banks and Dave Primrose-owned No. 12 to victory in the 35-lapper (Banks usually drives the car). ... He began showing smoke during the lap-six caution period, but Dumpert ran undaunted the rest of the way. ... Ninth-starting Drew Baker reached second after six laps, but slipped back to third and faded to seventh. ... Mark Lueken, who led the first lap, finished sixth. ... The race was slowed fourth times, most seriously for lap-10 red flag when polesitter Jadyn Friesen's car rolled in turn two (he climbed out unhurt); Jesse Bodin was also involved. ... The first caution appeared for a lap-six spin for Friesen. ... A yellow flew on the 19th lap for Tyler Iverson, who had reached eighth after starting 21st but broke. ... On the 20th lap, Chase Osborne spun in turn four. ... The 30-minute feature concluded at 11:22 p.m. ... The event honored Ray “The Hummer” Haase of Norfolk, Neb., a former Midwest racer whose driving career spanned more than 50 years; Haase died on March 18, 2024, at the age of 89. ... RTC3 Transportation, J-Dawg Express and Patriot Roofing were presenting sponsors
On the move: Runner-up Jake Neal of Omaha, Neb., started 10th.
