Colby Sheppard of Williamsville, Ill., captured the Firecracker 40 for his first Midwest Big 10 Crate Late Model Series win of 2021 and a $700 check. ... The race's fifth different leader, Sheppard gained control for good with less than 10 laps remaining when Dakota Ewing slowed with a flat tire. ... Jose Parga led the first 14 laps but retired with mechanical issues. ... Braden Johnson inherited the lead before retiring five laps later, handing the point to Dick for a single circuit as Dakota Ewing took over. ... Ewing's flat tire handed the lead to the 10th-starting Sheppard.
