Adam Stricker celebrates his $6,000 Ponderosa victory.
What won the race: Overcoming a rash of cautions, including two with three laps to go, polesitter Adam Stricker of Batavia, Ohio, earned a flag-to-flag victory in Friday's 19th annual Junebug Rowland Memorial at Ponderosa Speedway. Stricker led all 30 laps largely unchallenged and beat Rod Conley to the checkers by 1.494 seconds for the $6,000 payday, his first career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series victory.
Key notes: Stricker secured his second victory this season, adding to June 13's Northern Allstars Late Model Series triumph at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway. ... Jason Jameson, a two-time feature winner this season at Ponderosa, took second on a lap-13 restart but never seriously challenged Stricker before he tangled with Kaede Loudy and was eliminated under the race's fourth and final stoppage on lap 28; they were credited with 12th and 13th, respectively. ... Loudy pursued Stricker for the opening 12 laps until giving way to Jameson and then tangling with him as they battled for the runner-up spot. ... Stricker, Loudy and Jameson each earned $150 as heat race winners. ... Sixth-starting Rod Conley inherited second on the lap-28 restart but never seriously challenged Stricker over the final laps. ... Points leader Colten Burdette rounded out the podium finishers. ... Besides the second lap-28 caution that eliminated Jameson and Loudy, the race was slowed three other times, initially on lap 13 when 10th-running Josh Dietz's night ended. ... Fifth-starting Seth Daniels slipped to eighth and appeared to draw the second stoppage on lap 18 before he retired under the initial lap-28 caution. ... The event honored Hugh “Junebug” Rowland, a former mechanic and partner at R&N Racing; Rowland died on June 21, 1998, at the age of 57. ...
