What won the race: Taking control when race-long leader Cody Mahoney retired on the 31st lap, fifth-starting Derek Fisher of Olympia, Ky., paced the final five circuits of Friday's fourth annual Tim Breeding Memorial at Hidden Hollow Speedway. Fisher pulled away in the closing laps and beat Tucker Anderson by 2.350 seconds for the $5,500 paycheck, his second career victory on the Slingin' Dirt Late Model Series.
Key notes: Fisher became the first repeat winner on the first-year D.J. Smallwood-promoted series, adding to a $10,000 victory in July 18's Deanna Noble Memorial at 191 Speedway in Campton, Ky. ... It was his fourth feature win of the season and first away from 191. ... Cody Mahoney, winner of last fall's Iron-Man Series-sanctioned Coal Miners Classic at Hidden Hollow, led the opening 30 laps largely unchallenged before he was eliminated during the sixth and final caution on lap 31; Mahoney, who earned a $233 fast qualifier bonus thanks to Graphic Impressions, was credited with 12th. ... Tucker Anderson retook the runner-up spot on the lap-31 restart, but never had anything for Fisher over the final five laps. ... Seventh-starting Brandon Fouts completed the podium finishers. ... David Webb, who overcame a disqualification after appearing to win the night's third heat race, rallied to finish fourth. ... Vic Hill ran as high as second in the early going before finishing fifth in his second start of the season. ... Corey Lewis climbed 13 positions and finished eighth. ... Nick Mason won the night's $500 dash among the top-four qualifiers who utilized a Crate engine. ... Fourth-running Dustin Linville appeared to trigger the second stoppage on lap 11 before retiring under the fourth yellow flag on the 25th lap. ... Shannon Thornsberry was running fifth when he retired under the fifth caution on lap 27. ... Darren Slone was eliminated in an opening lap incident. ... The event honored Tim C. Breeding of Isom, Ky., who died Sept. 15, 2021, at the age of 67; Breeding’s sons Stephen (Hidden Hollow) and Jarrod (201 Speedway) operate dirt tracks in the Bluegrass State. ... The race lasted 42 minutes with six starters completing 35 laps.
On the move: David Webb of Nicholasville, Ky., started 18th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Fisher’s Mike Swartz-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by Swartz Construction and Tree Removal, Swartz Farms, Swartz Rentals, Wayne Bowen Racing Supplies, Wehrs Machine, Bilstein Shocks and Graphic Impressions.
