What won the race: Taking command after Kyle Hardy slowed and retired on the 11th lap, polesitter Justin Weaver of Clear Spring, Md., led the rest of Sunday's caution-plagued 40-lap Selinsgrove Ford Applachian Mountain Speedweek feature at Potomac Speedway. Weaver beat Chad Homan by 1.516 seconds for the $5,000 payday, his first career Speedweek triumph and second feature win of the season.
Quotable: “We were a little harder on tires, so when Kyle (Hardy) got out (to the lead), I wasn’t really surprised, but I knew he was gonna be tough to beat once he got out there,” Weaver said before later adding, “Luckily I was able to kinda conserve and wait until these tires fired (off). I hated to see Kyle and them have issues like that because it was gonna be a good race.”
Key notes: Second-starting Kyle Hardy led the opening 10 laps before slowing down the backstretch and coasting into turn three to draw the race's fifth caution. … Weaver led the rest of the way virtually unchallenged for his first win since March 29 at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway. ... It's his first Late Model special since May 24, 2019, at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on the now-defunct Mason-Dixon Shootout Series. ... Weaver makes it back-to-back first-time Speedweek winners to start the season after Trever Feathers topped Friday's season opener at Clinton County Speedway in Mill Hall, Pa. ... Eleventh-starting Chad Homan was second after a back-and-forth battle with Bryan Bernheisel in the closing laps. ... Seventh-starting Jamie Lathroum took fourth from Tyler Emory heading for the white flag. ... Jakob Piper improved eight positions to place seventh. ... Besides the lap-11 slowdown for Hardy's misfortune, nine other yellow flags slowed the feature, most notably on Lap 20 when Jeremy Pilkerton slowed from second after engine failure. ... Fourth-running Derick Quade came to a stop in turn four on lap 25 then retired. ... Trevor Collins slowed from sixth and called it a night on lap 31. ... Sixth-running Austin Lathroum spun in turn four on lap 38 before continuing to finish 13th. ... The 40-lapper lasted 34 minutes with 14 starters running at the finish. ... Jason Penn scratched.
On the move: Runner-up Chad Homan of Penfield, N.Y., started 11th.
