Tony Jackson Jr. caps a dominant victory Saturday at 34 Raceway.
What won the race: Ripping around polesitter Aaron Marrant and clearing him down the backstretch on the opening lap, second-starting Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., scored a dominant flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's 30-lap Midwest LateModel Racing Association non-stop feature at 34 Raceway. Jackson beat Dylan Thornton by 3.589 seconds for the $5,000 payday, his 19th career MLRA victory and third of the season.
Quotable: “You know you got a badass racetrack when you don’t know what lane to be in. We’ve had a good car every race this year. (Crew chief) Tim (Douglas) does a great job, everywhere we’ve unloaded we’ve had speed,” Jackson said. “I’ve had so many races get away from me here, this has always been one of my favorite racetracks, but it’s the first time we ever won here.”
Key notes: Points leader Tony Jackson Jr. earned his first 34 Raceway victory and third MLRA win of the season, adding to his March 13-14 season-opening sweep at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway. ... Polesitter Aaron Marrant cut Jackson's advantage as low as 0.260 of a second on lap eight before fading to fourth at the checkers. ... Fourth-starting Dylan Thornton remained loyal to the 34 Raceway cushion, powering around Chris Simpson for third on lap 11 and making a similar move around Marrant for second on the 17th lap. Thornton initially trailed Jackson by 1.784 seconds before Jackson more than doubled his lead over the race's second half. ... Simpson took third from Marrant on lap 20. ... Chad Simpson, apparent winner of the night's third heat race before getting penalized four spots for a deck height violation, took seventh from Daniel Hilsabeck on the final lap; Hilsabeck settled for eighth as the final starter to complete 30 laps. ... Nick Marolf retired from 11th under green on lap 24 and was credited with 15th. ... The green-to-checkered feature lasted eight minutes with 14 starters running at the finish.
On the move: Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, started 15th and finished seventh.
