Brandon Sheppard celebrates his second FloRacing Series win of the season.
What won the race: Powering around Shannon Babb on the third lap then surviving a lap-27 scrape with a spinning lapped car, second-starting Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., overcame a rash of cautions to lead the rest of Tuesday's 50-lap FloRacing Night in America Series makeup at Lincoln Speedway. Sheppard beat Devin Moran to the checkers by 2.331 seconds for the $20,000 paycheck, his second FloRacing Series victory of the season and fourth of his career.
Quotable: "Lincoln always produces some really good races, every time I’m here, anyway." Sheppard said, adding that "we had a big scare there with lapped cars and that was definitely hindering me there at the end of the race. Anytime you lose your spoiler like that, it’s not good."
Key notes: Sheppard blasted around Shannon Babb to become the race's third leader in the first three laps, then led unchallenged the rest of the way. ... On the 27th lap, a slower Myles Moos hopped the turn-one cushion and spun, catching a piece of Sheppard's right-rear quarterpanel and spoiler before sitting broadside, collecting second-running Bobby Pierce. ... Sheppard captured his 14th overall feature win of the season. ... Pierce pitted with right-side damage then rallied to third. ... Sheppard secured his sixth career Lincoln special, adding to DIRTcar Summer Nationals wins there in 2011, '15, '17 and '20-'21. ... Devin Moran took second on lap 43 and held off Pierce in the closing laps. ... Babb, who used Lincoln's low line to surge from third-to-first and lead lap two, restarted third on lap 35 when his left-front nosepiece dug into the infield berm, the resulting damage sent him backsliding to finish seventh. ... Polesitter Hudson O'Neal led the opening lap. He hopped the turn-four cushion on lap eight and faded to fourth; the resulting right-rear damage dropped him to eighth at the checkers. ... Besides the lap-27 caution for Moos, the race was slowed five other times, most notably when third-running Ricky Thornton Jr. slowed on lap 45 with a flat left-rear tire. ... Mike Spatola spun from 10th on lap 35. ... Josh Rice reported a heavy vibration and slowed from 12th at the entrance of turn three on the 12th lap, collecting Jake Little. ... Lincoln's FloRacing event May 7 originally drew 36 entries while 24 returned for the makeup. ... The feature lasted 41 minutes with 16 starters completing 50 laps.
On the move: Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, started 10th and finished fourth.
