Sam Seawright scored his first win since vacating Coltman Farms Racing.
What won the race: Being declared the winner five laps from its scheduled 50-lap distance, Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., led all 46 completed circuits from the pole in winning Saturday's $7,500 Thunder on the Hill in the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series debut at Thunderhill Raceway. Seawright led largely unchallenged and was ahead of Josh Putnam by 2.442 seconds at the last completed green-flag lap before a piece of debris broke the scoring tower window, causing a red flag until series officials deemed the race complete.
Quotable: "I had a really good car, this was a Crate car yesterday. (Crewman) Aubrey (Pruitt) stripped it down and put the Super motor back in, put new axle tubes and everything back in it and it was awesome there," Seawright said before later adding, "I decided to step back from Coltman (Farms Racing) and kinda start doing my own thing again. We didn’t have no major blowup like everybody probably thinks. He was good to me for a really long time and I think he’s still gonna be (a sponsor) on the car."
Key notes: Seawright scored his second career Southern Thunder victory and first since Nov. 8, 2025, at the now-closed Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway. ... It was his fourth feature win of the season and second aboard a Mach X Chassis (Jan. 3's Ice Bowl XXXV at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.), his first since departing the No. 16 Coltman Farms Racing entry. ... Third-starting Josh Putnam muscled his way by Dalton Cook for second on lap 14, but never seriously threatened Seawright's advantage. Putnam failed to fire on a lap-47 restart attempt and spun into the infield after contact with Ashton Winger, but was allowed to retain the runner-up spot before the scoring tower's window was broken on the ensuing restart attempt, ending the race. ... Cook pursued Seawright for the opening 13 laps before giving way to Putnam and settling for third. ... The points-leading Winger finished fourth without his hood following contact with Steven Holcomb's lapped machine that sent Holcomb spinning into the infield on the ninth lap. ... Dillard Hatchett grabbed fifth from Payton Stevenson as Stevenson's right-rear tire detonated for the initial lap-47 stoppage; he was credited sixth after another lap failed to be completed. ... Matthew Brocato ran as high as fourth in the early going until Thomas Hunziker spun on lap 15, sending Brocato spinning to avoid; Brocato finished seventh. ... Hunziker spun again on the ensuing restart and retired. ... Fourth-running Matt Cooper retired under the lap-16 caution. ... Heath Hindman improved three spots to place eighth as the final starter running when the race was called. ... The race was slowed eight times, most notably for an opening-lap rollover wreck that eliminated Blake McClain; he was OK. ... Cook and Brocato had a stackup on the next start, sending Stevenson and Dusty Chitwood spinning down the backstretch, eliminating Chitwood. ... The 46-lap race lasted nearly 43 minutes.
On the move: Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., started 10th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Seawright’s Mach X Chassis carries sponsorship from Coltman Farms Racing, Troy Baird, J&R Excavating, Cove 2 Coast Marine, Southern Ridge Home & Development, BruceBuilt Fabrication, Base Racing Fuels, Integra Racing Shocks, Keyser Manufacturing and American Racing Wheels.
