Tyler Erb heads for a $10,000 victory at Portsmouth Raceway Park.
What won the race: Polesitter Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, dominated Saturday's fourth annual Fall 40 at Portsmouth Raceway Park for a flag-to-flag victory en route to a $10,000 payday on the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series. Erb took the checkers 1.919 seconds ahead of 10th-starting Jason Jameson for his third Iron-Man Series win of the season and fifth of his career.
Key notes: Terbo tallied his third Portsmouth victory in consecutive starts after sweeping the Sept. 4-5 weekend in unsanctioned action, worth more than $25,000. ... It's his ninth feature win of the season and third on the Iron-Man tour, adding to a May 22 victory at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., worth $10,000 and a $30,000 triumph June 13 at West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, W.Va. ... Tenth-starting Jason Jameson came alive after a lap-13 restart moving from sixth to second by lap 24, but sat more than 4.5 seconds behind Erb. ... Erb enjoyed a 6.329-second advantage when the fifth and final caution fell on lap 30, but Jameson never seriously threatened Erb over the final 10 laps, finishing nearly two seconds back at the line. ... Sixth-starting Seth Daniels slipped as low as sixth in the early going before fighting back and taking third from Derek Fisher on lap 28. ... Points leader Colten Burdette took fourth from Fisher on lap 35, dropping Fisher to fifth. ... Miles Cook II climbed 15 spots to finish seventh. ... Tenth-finishing Rod Conley was honored with the Noel Hargis Lifetime Achievement Award. ... The race was slowed five times, the first three all coming on the sixth lap and two ensuing restart attempts, involving Josh Bocook, Tripp Gerrald, Matt Melvin, Kenneth Howell and Shannon Thornsberry; Melvin, Howell and Thornsberry were eliminated while Gerrald rallied back to finish eighth and Bocook finished 14th, the final starter running at the finish. ... Kody Evans, who earned his first Iron-Man Series win there on Aug. 29, slowed and retired from seventh for the fourth caution on lap 13. ... Fifth-running R.J. Conley slowed and pitted under the final stoppage on lap 30; he continued to finish ninth. ... The feature lasted 27 minutes with 10 starters completing 40 laps. ... Iron-Man competitors return to Portsmouth to conclude its season on Oct. 30-31 in the $10,000- and $50,000-to-win Halloween Nationals.
