Making a stellar move between the front-row starters at the drop of the green flag, fourth-starting Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., dominated Friday's second semifeature at Eldora Speedway in World 100 preliminary action. O'Neal, who went around polesitter Brian Shirley exiting turn two on the first lap, wasn't challenged in his $12,000 victory with seventh-starting Chris Ferguson 1.119 seconds behind at the checkers.

Shootout recap

Brian Shirley overcame multiple restarts and led all 15 laps from the pole to win the first shootout by 0.855 of a second over fourth-starting Hudson O’Neal, earning the pole starting position for the night’s second 25-lap preliminary semifeature. Sixth-starting fast qualifier Chris Ferguson took third from Trey Mills on the 14th lap, dropping Mills to fourth. Lane Snook climbed from 13th to place seventh. A stoppage came on the third lap when Jason Feger and Jason Jameson made contact as they battled for seventh, with Feger spinning and nosing hard into the inner backstretch wall; Feger is expected to continue competing in a backup car. Another yellow flag came on the sixth lap when sixth-running Freddie Carpenter slowed and pitted with a flat left-rear tire. A third caution dropped on the 12th lap when 11th-running Jeffery Erickson Jr. slowed; none of those three drivers were able to continue and rounded out the 15-car field. … Tristan Chamberlain fired off from the pole and led all 15 non-stop laps in winning the second shootout by 0.216 of a second over ninth-starting and fast-closing Bobby Pierce. Pierce threw a lap-12 slide job that ended on Dan Ebert’s nose, leaving the sixth-starting Ebert to limp to a fifth-place finish with heavy nose damage. Joseph Joiner and Dennis Erb Jr. each improved two spots, placing sixth and eighth. … Sixth-starting Josh Rice charged to the lead on the eighth lap and led the rest of Friday’s final 15-lap shootout that went green-to-checkered, winning by 1.339 seconds over third-starting Chris Madden, who led the opening seven circuits. Seventh-starting Mike Marlar used a last-lap pass by Tyler Carpenter to finish fifth, dropping Carpenter to sixth. Tenth-starting Jason Riggs took the eighth and final transfer spot as polesitter Tim Lance faded to ninth.
