Jeremy Steele celebrates his first World Short Track victory at Charlotte.
What won the race: Sliding by early leader Kale Green just before the race's first caution flew on lap 14, third-starting Jeremy Steele of York, S.C., led the rest of Saturday's 604 Crate Late Model portion of the 11th annual World Short Track Championship at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. Steele beat Trent Ivey by 0.865 of a second for the $8,000 paycheck and his third feature win of the season.
Quotable: "I’ve ran second up here in two different cars, two different classes. I come up here every year, Trent (Ivey) and Dillon (Brown) kick my butt and John (Ruggiero), he’s the best of them all probably, he kicks my butt every year," Steele said. "Just this year, that car right there is awesome. I never sat in it before this weekend and Cameron Tribble gave me an opportunity to drive it, I couldn’t turn it down and here we are."
Key notes: Steele piloted the same Cameron Tribble-owned car that Carson Ferguson drove to a $10,000 payday in Oct. 3's RUSH Crate Late Model-sanctioned Bill Hendren Memorial at Pittsburgh Pa. Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pa. ... Steele secured his first career World Short Track title and doubled his race winnings on the 2026 season, adding to a May 1-2 American All-Star Crate Series sweep at Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, Md., worth $8,000. ... Kale Green led the opening 12 laps from the pole before Steele's turn-three slide job relegated Green to second just before the first yellow flag waved on the 14th lap; Green gave way to Trent Ivey on the lap-14 restart and settled for third. ... Seventeenth-starting Layton Sullivan powered by Dillon Brown for fourth on lap 22, dropping Brown to fifth. ... Ross Bailes climbed seven positions to place sixth. ... Polesitter John Ruggiero Jr., a five-time overall World Short Track Championship winner, was a surprise non-factor in fading to finish eighth. ... Teenager Wyatt Coffey improved six spots to finish ninth. ... The race was slowed twice, first for Joey Whitaker's turn-three spin that ended with him backing hard into the wall on the 14th lap. ... Dillon Daves spun in turn two on the ensuing restart; Daves continued to finish 21st as the final starter running at the checkers. ... The race lasted 14 minutes with 18 starters completing 25 laps.
On the move: Layton Sullivan of Gaffney, S.C., started 17th and finished fourth.
