McKay Wenger's team added another on-the-road victory.
What won the race: Winning outside his home state and grabbing a first-time series victory worth $5,000 for the second Saturday in a row, polesitter McKay Wenger of Fairbury, Ill., captured an Ultimate Heart of America Series event at Shadyhill Speedway. Wenger overtook fellow front-row starter Tristan Chamberlain on the ninth lap and led the rest of the 30-lapper for his first tour victory. He won eight days earlier at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., for his first Heartland Late Model Tour victory.
Key notes: The series made its visit to Shadyhill since July 31, 2021, a race won by Tyler Erb. ... The Bill Lupinos-owned tour was in action for the first time since Rusty Schlenk's May 16 victory in Montpelier, Ind. ... Various rainouts, cancellations and postponements caused the hiatus. ... Kyle Cooper, a five-time winner in Shadyhill Limited Late Model action this season, retired after just three laps. ... Several cautions slowed the race and it took more than 15 minutes to complete a single lap. ... The 44-minute race saw 10 drivers complete 30 laps.
On the move: Jade Cooper of Wheatfield, Ind., started 20th and finished 13th.
Winner's sponsors: Wenger's Longhorn Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsorship by Pope-Joy Plumbing-Heating-Electric, TKS Concrete, Subway (Fairbury), Dave Wenger Transportation, Dabney Trucking, Seneca Towling, Pontiac RV and Creative Kitchens & Baths.
Points chase: After Shadyhill: 1. Larry Martin Jr. (124); 2. Daniel Shelton (123); 3. Rusty Schlenk (67); T4. Dona Marcoullier (66); T4. Steve Peeden (66); 6. Dillard Hatchett (65).
