Brett Swedberg and his supporters after winning the Diamond 47.
What won the race: Making a late high-side charge, Brett Swedberg of Shawano, Wis., rolled around race-long leader and polesitter Nick Anvelink in traffic and grabbed a career-high $4,700 victory in Wabam Dirt Kings Tour action Saturday at 141 Speedway. The third-starting Swedberg took the checkers 0.632 of a second ahead of Anvelink, the tour's all-time wins leader in the Diamond 47 for his fourth career series victory.
Quotable: "(Lapped traffic) definitely helped," Swedberg said. "We were both losing the right front at the same time over here. I just got by the lappers before he did. Good race."
Key notes: Swedberg's previous series victory came in the 2024 finale Sept. 21 at Plymouth, Wis. ... Six cautions slowed the action at 141, the first on the third lap for Mitch McGrath's turn-one spin. ... Debris on the 13th lap when the start cone somehow ended up on the track. ... On the 18th lap, Lukas Postl drew a yellow for a 360-degree spin, then spun again a lap later with Justin Green in turn four ... Joel Bennett had a lap-20 spin in turn four. ... Justin Schmidt slowed on the 30th lap. ... McGrath spun again in turn two on the lap-30 restart, collecting Turk Letizia. ... The event honored the life and legacy of “Diamond” Jim Letizia for his 40 years in racing, many of which spent behind the wheel of the familiar No. D7 Dirt Late Model. He was also a major sponsor with Diamond Jim’s Motorcars auto sales and Diamond Jim’s Steakhouse. ... The 47-lapper lasted 27 minutes, with 16 starters completing the distance and 18 running at the finish.
On the move: Gunner Frank of Montrose, Iowa, started 10th and finished third.
