Max Blair captured the RUSH tour opener at Roaring Knob.
What won the race: Taking the lead from Brian Knowles on the 17th lap, fourth-starting Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., raced to a $1,200 victory in the season-opening event for the RUSH Dirt Late Model Series. Defending series champion Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., stole second from Garrett Paugh of Elkins, W.Va., on the final lap.
Quotable: "We got put behind with that big pill draw and it was tough to pass in the heat races, but I got in position on the final lap to make something happen and it worked out," Blair said. "We ended up drawing a four for the feature so it realistically took me from starting 14th to fourth so that was a huge deal. It was fun. I wasn't a big fan of the water when we were packing it, but it ended up making it pretty racy. I moved up and there was something to get a hold of. It sure was a lot of fun to ride around this place on the top — I've never gotten to do that in all the years coming here."
Key notes: Paugh led the first seven laps, before Knowles overtook him on a restart after the first caution. ... A second yellow flew on lap 11. ... Roaring Knob hosted the first of 24 touring events for RUSH competitors. ... The Crate Late Model tour has divided its events into northern and southern schedules for 2015. ... The top point-getter on both the Insinger Performance/Sunoco Race Fuels Northern Series and the Bazell/Sunoco Race Fuels Southern Series will earn $4,000, with the driver earning the most points overall receiving an additional $2,000. ... Keith Barbara of South Park, Pa., dominated the Super Late Model feature.
On the move: Jason Knowles of Addison, N.Y., advanced from 11th to complete the top five.
Winner's sponsors: Blair drives a Rocket Chassis with sponsorship from C and J Dairy, D.L. Anderson Builder and Remodeler, Genesis Racing Shocks, Hicktown Farms, Moody & Sons Welding, Murphy's Logging, R&J Poultry and Specialty Products.
