Tyler Erb celebrates his first World of Outlaws victory in three years.
What won the race: Leading all 50 laps, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, captured his first World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series victory in three years in the Dairyland Showdown opener at Mississippi Thunder Speedway. Fending off a few challenges from Bobby Pierce and Nick Hoffman, Erb took the checkers 1.421 seconds ahead of Hoffman for a $25,000 payday.
Quotable: "I could damn near drive wide open straight into (turn) one and just try not to blow the tires completely off this thing," Erb said, "and then once I started, just kind of entering all the way up in the wall, full commit, I felt like I stretched out a little bit. The last, I don't know, 7-8 laps I was like, 'Please don't have a flat, please don't have a flat.'"
Key notes: Erb notched his fourth career WoO victory and first since April 22, 2022 (he's primarily run on the Lucas Oil Series of independently in recent seasons). ... Erb's first three WoO triumphs came at Atomic Speedway near Chillicothe, Ohio. .... Erb notched his second victory of the season; his previous came two weekends earlier in Schaeffer's Spring Nationals at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway. ... Four cautions slowed the action, the first when Cade Dillard got into the turn-three wall on the first lap, damaging his car. ... On the second lap, Drake Troutman slowed with a flat right-rear tire. ... On the 12th lap, third-running Brian Shirley fell off the pace after showing engine smoke. ... Fifth-running Dustin Sorensen shredded a right-rear tire on the 18th lap. ... Nick Hoffman lowered the track record in time trials. ... Tyler Bruening debuted a new Infinity Race Car. ... Oregon driver Collen Winebarger made his WoO debut. ... With Thursday's action rained out, Saturday concludes the weekend with a $30,000-to-win finale (it was originally $75,000 but the purse was restructured).
On the move: Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., started 18th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
