What won the race: Making his debut at Circle City Raceway in the tour's first visit, Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led all 50 laps Friday at the quarter-mile oval for a $15,000 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory. Overton, notching his first top-five on the circuit in three months, took the checkers 0.780 of a second ahead of Devin Moran.
Quotable: "Man, we've been fast. Like we just cannot catch a break," Overton said. "Like four weekends in a row we've been leading races and something happens, so I figured sooner or later something would go my way."
Key notes: Brandon Overton, who has 17 full-field Lucas Oil victories in his career, scored his first Lucas Oil top-five finish since Feb. 8 at Ocala (Fla.) Speedway. ... Overton broke a 13-race series streak of combined victories for Ricky Thornton Jr., Devin Moran and Jonathan Davenport. ... Moran put pressure on Overton after a lap-36 restart but couldn't get underneath the leader. ... Spencer Hughes recovered to finish ninth after he and his JCM Motorsports team had hauler trouble and didn't arrive in time for prelims. ... Four cautions slowed the action. ... Rain threatened the event, but hurry-up mode helped get the 50-lapper completed. ... A four-car pileup on the initial start in turn two near the back of the pack triggered the first yellow on the initial start. ... Eighth-running Josh Rice got a piece of the wall on lap 16; brake line failure forced him to retire. ... On the lap-16 restart, eighth-running Daulton Wilson had suspension problems that sent him into the turn-one wall, flattening his right-front tire; he retired. .... On the 36th lap, Cory Lawler spun in front of the leaders in turn four. ... Devin Gilpin, who finished 11th, claimed a $500 bonus posted the best-finishing Indiana driver without a Lucas Oil victory. ... Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., piloted a Chad Stapleton-owned No. 7R Longhorn (health issues have sidelined Stapleton). ... Delaware's Ross Robinson was a no-show in ending his full-time Lucas Oil Series run that begin in 2022. ... With Florence Speedway raining out Saturday, Overton is headed to World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series action at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., along with Ricky Thornton Jr. and Brandon Sheppard, among Lucas Oil regulars.
