Jeremy Steele enjoys his first career Crate Racin' USA Series victory.
What won the race: Unfazed by numerous restarts throughout the 50-lapper, polesitter Jeremy Steele of York, S.C., led all the way to capture Saturday's $10,000 Pine Tree 100 at Swainsboro Raceway. Steele beat Jimmy Thomas to the line by 1.555 seconds for his first career Rogers-Dabbs Crate Racin' USA 604 Series victory and first win of the season.
Quotable: “It feels like it’s finally about time (to win). This place and this series, I’ve put myself in the spot to do it so many times and everything don’t go your way, you run second you run third," Steele said. "You can’t be mad about that, but you go home and you keep working and it feels good when one of them finally comes together. I’ve always wanted one of these cool trophies they have down here, I love this place.”
Key notes: Steele captured his second career five-figure payday and first since Sept. 3, 2023, an American All-Star Crate Series event at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va. ... Steele notched his third podium finish in as many CRUSA starts this season, extending his early points lead. ... Ninth-starting Jimmy Thomas used a lap-42 restart to pass hometown driver Ben Faircloth for second, but never challenged Steele. ... Bubba Roling got by Faircloth on the next lap and finished third. ... The sixth-starting Faircloth pursued Steele from laps 9-41 before fading to fourth. ... Allen Styck improved 17 positions to round out the top five. ... Zach Leonhardi and Matt Henderson overcame a lap-nine restart crash to finish eighth and ninth; the multicar incident started when Leonhardi spun on the restart after contact from Thomas, collecting Henderson and Jake Rainey. ... Trent McLeod triggered the race's first caution when he slowed with heavy left-front damage on the third lap. He rebounded for 12th, the first finisher one lap down. ... Fifth-running Joey Armistead slammed the turn-three wall on lap 25 for the seventh slowdown. ... The 50-lapper was slowed by two red flags, the first under the lap-three yellow when a bank of lights went dark in turn three and again under a lap-33 caution when Caleb Gay required a tow off the frontstretch wall. ... The main event lasted 75 minutes with 11 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Pearson Lee Williams of Dublin, Ga., started 24th and finished sixth; Bobby Mills of Zebulon, Ga., started 25th and finished seventh.
