Tanner English emerges in victory lane at Duck River.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead after a dramatic tangle of frontrunners Ashton Winger and Dale McDowell, Tanner English of Benton, Ky., took over for a lap-45 restart and led the rest of Saturday's Deep Fried 75 at Duck River Raceway Park for a $20,000 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series victory. The outside front-row starter drove a new car in taking the checkers 2.652 seconds ahead of third-starting Zack Mitchell, who made his first trip to the quarter-mile bullring.
Quotable: "I was a little scared when they worked the track, you know. It's still pretty sticky right here. But it still raced pretty good, you know? Me and Dale and Ashton had some good racing," English said. "I hate it for them, you know. I think it was just a racing deal, you know — they were both going for the same spot. But right before that I had found a line that where I was kind of diamonding off (turns) three and four and I was catching them. So who knows what would have happened, I don't know. But I'd like to think I could have passed them outright."
Key notes: English's previous HTF victory came in 2023's season finale at Duck River. ... Saturday's key moment came on the 45th lap when frontrunners Dale McDowell and Ashton Winger tangled at the end of the backstretch while battling. Out of room against the fence, Winger's car got briefly airborne while McDowell's machine spun like a top. Both drivers retired with significant damage. ... Winger led the first 41 laps while McDowell slid under him to lead laps 42-44. ... Winger was chasing his first HTF victory of the season while McDowell was looking for his seventh victory in his last nine starts. ... Friday's $5,000 winner Sam Seawright held second much of the way but slipped back after the final restart on lap 69 to finish sixth. ... Besides the McDowell-Winger incident, three other cautions slowed the action, the first for Joseph Joiner's lap-four spin after Caden Mullinax got into the fence. ... Brad Skinner stalled for a lap-29 yellow. ... Oakley Johns went around on lap 69. ... Joiner had a flat left-rear during parade laps and gave up his eighth starting spot to change tires. ... Semi-retired announcer Roby Helm was behind the mic substituting for regular series voice Lenny Batycki.
On the move: Series points leader Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., started 17th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: English’s Brett Coltman-owned Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Coltman Farms Racing, Autism Awareness, Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett, ProFabrication, MPM Marketing, M&M Painting & Construction, C Motors, DirtCarLift.com, Boswell Oil, VP Racing Fuels, SRI Performance, Swift Springs and Bilstein Shocks.
Points chase: After Duck River: 1. Brandon Overton (916); 2. Sam Seawright (854); 3. Zack Mitchell (806); 4. Ashton Winger (804); T5. Joseph Joiner (798); T5. Josh Putnam (798); 7. Trey Mills (766); 8. Wil Herrington (738); 9. Jackson Hise (660); 10. Chris Ferguson (598).
