Alex Ferree celebrates his $5,000 Dave Kittey Memorial victory at Latrobe.
What won the race: After trailing Jared Miley on the opening lap, pole-starting Alex Ferree of Saxonburg, Pa., led the remainder of Saturday's 30-lap, third annual Dave Kittey Memorial at Latrobe Speedway. Ferree took the checkers 2.298 seconds ahead of Miley for the $5,000 victory, his first of the season on the Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series and the eighth of his career — his first since earning $2,000 on Sept. 16, 2022 at Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown, Pa.
Key notes: Appalachian Mountain Speedweek champ Gregg Satterlee ran as high as second for the majority of the race before slowing from third on lap 27 to draw the race's sixth and final caution. ... Fifteenth-starting Dan Angelicchio inherited third on the lap-27 restart and completed the podium finishers. ... Colton Flinner worked his way as high as fifth before bringing out the third yellow flag on lap 13; he completed a couple more laps before calling it a night. ... Points leader Michael Lake retired on lap nine. ... The race's first stoppage came on the second circuit and necessitated a 15-minute red flag for cleanup. It appeared to be a multicar incident that included Dylan Lewis, Billy Dickson and Clinton Hersh, with Hersh getting disqualified. Lewis and Dickson were also unable to continue. ... The event honored Dave Kittey, of Latrobe, Pa., a journalist who had an immense impact on the local short track racing scene in the area. Kittey began publishing for the RPM Racing News before writing a weekly column for the Latrobe Bulletin; he died on Aug. 23, 2022, at the age of 63. ... The 30-lapper lasted 47 minutes, with 10 competitors completing the distance.
On the move: Dan Angelicchio of Mount Pleasant, Pa., started 15th and finished third.
