A triumphant Jason Feger celebrates his $10,000 payday Saturday at Highland Speedway.
What won the race: Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., outran early leader Chad Zobrist when he beat the hometown racer to the bottom on lap 14 and led the remainder of Saturday's 40-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature at Highland (Ill.) Speedway. Feger pocketed $10,000 for the victory, which came 1.198 seconds over Tanner English of Benton, Ky.
Quotable: “The track was a little different tonight. It was a little greasier than normal, but the car was really good," Feger said in victory lane. "Had a rough couple nights. Took those cars home. This is our oldest one and the littlest motor. This track sure has been good to me. I love getting to come here. They have amazing fans. Can’t wait to come back for that Outlaw show.”
Key notes: Feger's victory marked his third on the Summer Nationals over the last five tour events. It's also his 29th career series triumph, breaking his tie with Scott Bloomquist and moving him solely into sixth all-time. ... Ashton Winger drew the feature's only caution when he slowed out of the eighth-position with four laps remaining because of an apparent mechanical failure. Winger entered the night tied with Tyler Erb atop the Summer Nationals third week standings. Feger now leads the weekly standings by eight markers over Erb, who started seventh and finished fourth. ... Of the 16 drivers running at the checkers, 13 finished on the lead lap during the 11-minute main event.
On the move: Matt Bailey of Highland, Ill., started 13th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Digital Copy Systems, Hoker Trucking, The Big Cheese MM, CorrosionX, Remtek Enterprises, RLM Enterprises, Cheap Cars, FK Rod Ends, Keyser Manufacturing, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, VP Racing Fuels and Griffin Signs.
