Good times for Ryan Unzicker's team at Spoon River Speedway.
What won the race: Taking advantage of race-long leader Tyler Erb's turn-four spin after Jason Feger's bold slide job on lap 27, Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., led the final four laps Thursday at Spoon River Speedway for a $5,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory. Unzicker took the checkers 1.045 seconds ahead of Feger, who dove between Unzicker and Erb entering turn three on the 27th lap, making slight contact that sent Erb spinning. Because Unzicker was ahead of Feger on the previously scored lap, he restarted ahead of Feger for the race's lone restart and raced to his 14th career series victory.
Quotable: "I was putting a lot of pressure on Erb there. I don't know if I'd ever got around him and I'm not sure what happened there, I know Feger was right there and obviously they got tangled up there," Unzicker said. "I felt like I was pretty sporty there really the whole night. It's just the testament to my whole crew. A lot of people that follow us know that we struggled all year and we just never gave up really. We just took a couple of weeks off and needed to step back to regroup."
Key notes: Unzicker's previous Summer Nationals triumph came July 6, 2023, at Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, Mich. ... Spoon River was the site of Unzicker's first-ever Summer Nationals victory in 2010. ... The pole-sitting Erb led 26 laps with Unzicker pressuring him multiple times — less than two-tenths of a second behind on multiple laps — without finding a way past. ... Jason Feger moved up midrace to make it a three-wide battle and his daring move after getting a run on the backstretch on lap 27 set up the race's key moment when he slid in front of Erb, making slight contact. ... Erb's spin was the event's lone caution. ... The event was promoted by Bob Sargent's Track Enterprises and the longtime track-owning Denney family; the track's weekly events are now promoted by Tim Neidig after health issues forced Cloyd Barden to abandon his first season promoting the track.
On the move: Fast qualifier Kye Blight of Bunbury, Western Australia, started 10th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Unzicker’s MB Customs Race Car has a Pro Power Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from RJR Transportation, Brucker Farms, Mosquito Hero, Fairbury Fastener & Supply, Larimer Cows & Calves, Absolute Home Repair & Remodeling, Gary Miller’s Classic Auto, El Paso Outdoor Center, Unzicker Equipment, Renegade Fuels and Aftershock Decals & Design, Konstruction Services, Pro Tire and Automotive, Mackinac Valley Powder Coating, Logan Smith Collectibles, Clean It Up 843 Pressure Washing Professionals, A Solution HVAC & Construction, Budda by Bert, DirtcarLift, Keyser Manufacturing, Allstar Performance, NAPA El Paso, Action Suspension and Varsitee Screenprinting.
Points chase: Week 2 after Spoon River: 1. Jason Feger (210); 2. Kye Blight (177); 3. Tyler Erb (174); 4. Garrett Smith (164) 5. Billy Moyer (153). Overall after Spoon River: 1. Tyler Erb (413); 2. Jason Feger (395); 3. Kye Blight (315); 4. Dillon McCowan (293); 5. Billy Moyer (261).

Unzicker took the checkers 1.045 seconds ahead of Feger, who dove between Unzicker and Erb entering turn three on the 27th lap, making contact that sent Erb spinning.
