Chad Simpson (25) passed Andy Eckrich (56) to win Friday at Lee County.
What won the race: Fourth-starting Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, took advantage of a lap-19 restart and moved into second before powering around the outside of Andy Eckrich in the closing laps and winning Friday's $3,000 Hoker Trucking Series feature at Lee County Speedway. Simpson secured his second career series victory, with both coming this season.
Quotable: “Andy Eckrich had the best race car,” Simpson said. “He could just get off the corner better than I could. I rode (in) third most of the race and then I got to second on that (lap 19) restart and got by (Chad) Holladay. Andy (Eckrich) was just so much better on the bottom, I tried to follow him around there and he’d pull (away from) me on the exit, so I’m like ‘well if I’m going to try and win this race, I gotta get up on the top and just see if I can make something happen’.”
Key notes: Defending series winner at Lee County, third-starting Eckrich, of Iowa City, Iowa, led laps 18-27 before settling for second. ... Brian Harris moved into third in the closing laps and rounded-out the podium. ... Pole-starting Chad Holladay led 15 of the first 17 laps before fading to finish fourth. ... Second-starting Jeff Tharp led laps 13 and 14 before finishing sixth. ... Jeff Larson advanced three positions and finished seventh. ... Friday's race was slowed by one caution when Matt Ryan hit an infield tire just as Luke Goedert stopped on-track. … Lee County hosts a $5,000-to-win special on Aug. 25 for IMCA Late Models.
On the move: Brian Harris of Davenport, Iowa, started seventh and finished third.
