Mike Marlar waves to the Clarksville crowd in victory lane.
What won the race: Pole-starting Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led all 50 laps Tuesday at Clarksville Speedway for a $10,000 victory on the Ultimate Heart of America Series. Marlar ouran Cory Hedgecock for his fourth overall victory of the season.
Quotable: “Yeah thank you, car was good there and the cautions played out nice for me,” Marlar said. “We’re going up to Florence for the (Castrol) Flo (series) race tomorrow night and getting everything ready for Eldora next week. We got a lot ahead of us here this summer, so it’s fun to come out here for these midweek races, see the fans out and everybody watching on TV. It’s pretty cool to get to do this, where racing is right now.”
Key notes: Fresh off Monday's $5,052 Iron-Man Series victory at 411, Cory Hedgecock trailed Marlar the entire distance, finishing 0.937 of a second back. ... Ricky Weiss moved into third on a lap-seven restart and completed the podium. ... Payton Freeman advanced four positions and finished fourth. ... Rodney Melvin gained five spots and finished sixth. ... Josh Putnam's race ended on lap 38 after tangling with a lapped car while running fifth. ... Sam Seawright spun on lap five, collecting Joe Denby and Chad Stapleton, ending each of their nights. ... Tuesday's feature was slowed by seven incidents and lasted 29 minutes, with 13 competitors completing 50 laps.
On the move: Hunt Gossum of Mayfield, Ky., started 14th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Delk Equipment, Petroff Towing, Tri-Rivers Enterprise (Mark and Kim Dotson), Can-Am Auto Salvage, Auto Parts 4 Less, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Capital Capsigns, VP Racing Fuels, Stanley Best Heating & Air, Midwest Sheet Metal and Bilstein.
