A.J. Diemel heads for a $3,007 victory at Red Cedar Speedway.
What won the race: Winning Red Cedar Speedway's Tom Steuding Memorial for the second straight year, A.J. Diemel of Elk Mound, Wis., overtook pole-starting Jesse Glenz on the 11th lap and led the rest of Friday’s opener on the Wabam Dirt Kings Tour. Diemel earned $3,007 in taking the checkers 0.828 of a second ahead of 12th-starting Nick Anvelink.
Key notes: Diemel has three career Dirt Kings victories. Besides two Red Cedar triumphs, he won at Shawano Speedway in 2018 on the Wisconsin-based tour. ... Fourteen of 22 starters completed 30 laps and all but Troy Springborn were running at the finish. ... Early leader Jesse Glenz settled for fourth. ... Red Cedar is celebrating its 50th year of operation. … The night's action honored Tom Steuding of Altoona, Wis., a famed Late Model racer in the Upper Midwest whose racing career spanned nearly 35 years; Steuding died in 2014 at the age of 74.
On the move: Runner-up Nick Anvelink of Bonduel, Wis., started 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Diemel’s MB Customs chassis is sponsored by Beltline Body Shop, Olsen Custom Farms, Southworth GMC, Badger Excavating, White City Glass, T.L. Sinz Plumbing, Keyser Manufacturing, Wilwood and Speedwerx.
