What won the race: Controlling the action from start-to-finish, Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., rolled to a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday night’s marathon 30-lap Darryl Hills Memorial at Potomac Speedway. The 34-year-old driver beat Bryan Bernheisel to the finish line by 2.059 seconds to earn $6,500 in a season-ending Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series-sanctioned feature slowed by seven caution flags and two reds.
Quotable: “Them long cautions (and reds) there were just killing me,” Zeigler told Elbows-Up Dirt Productions’ Thomas Cordell in victory lane. “I went back to running my same line pretty much up high and I don’t think it got slimy or what it did, but I just couldn’t race where I wanted to. I had to figure out where I needed to change on the racetrack. I’d say it just bled back a little bit (during the pauses).”
Key notes: Zeigler repeated his triumph in last year’s Darryl Hills Memorial, which was sanctioned by the Fall Clash and marked his last visit to Potomac. … It was Zeigler’s third win of 2026 and the 10th of his career on the ULMS tour. … A winner seven times overall this season, Zeigler pulled away from his nearest challenger on each of the race’s nine restarts. … Bernheisel finished second after overtaking Shaun Jones on a lap-22 restart. … Jones settled for a third-place finish after running in second for laps 11-22. … Trever Feathers placed fourth in the Cameron-Mann Motorsports No. 72F while Derick Quade reached fifth on lap 28 and finished there. … The race was red-flagged for the first time on a lap-10 restart for a nine-car wreck on the frontstretch that eliminated Dylan Lewis, Scotty Nelson, John Davis and Justin Weaver, who won June’s Appalachian Mountain Speedweek event at Potomac. Damage to the cars was significant but no injuries were reported. … A second red flag was displayed on lap 21. … The longest stretch of consecutive green-flag racing in the A-main was nine circuits following a lap-one caution flag. … The race took just under one hour to complete, ending at 10:50 p.m. … Jon Lee of Summerville, Pa., who entered the event with a commanding 340-point advantage over Bryan Bernheisel in the 2026 ULMS standings, finished sixth and was crowned the tour’s champion for the first time. … Zeigler picked up $350 for his fastest qualifying lap and each heat winner received $200 from Leonardtown Ford and James Adkins Jr. … Seventh-place finisher Dan Stone earned a $300 bonus from Eugene Copsey Plumbing and the Lathroum family. ... The event honored Darryl Hills of Great Mills, Md., who won five titles and amassed more than 30 feature wins at Potomac. He died on Jan. 11, 2024, at the age of 47.
On the move: Carl Vaughan of Chesapeake, Va., started 23rd and finished 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Zeigler’s Rocket Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine and sponsorship from Greenlane, Hranec Corp., BX Logistics, HWE Trucking, RBS, Matheson Gas of Uniontown, Dyers Top Rods, Fox Racing Shox, Deep Creek Docks, VP Fuels, Swift Springs and BLE.
