Benji Hicks and crew in victory lane at Lavonia (Ga.) Speedway.
What won the race: Seventh-starting Benji Hicks of Mount Airy, N.C., took the lead on lap 20 and paced the final 22 circuits at Lavonia Speedway, winning Friday's $7,500 Buck Simmons Memorial feature by over six seconds. Hicks notched his second career Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series feature victory and his first since 2018 at Cherokee Speedway.
Key notes: Brett Hamm moved into the runner-up position on the final lap and finished 6.009 seconds back. ... Second-starting Brent Dixon led the first 19 laps before fading to finish third. ... Cla Knight advanced four positions and finished sixth. ... Adam Yarbrough gained six spots and finished ninth. ... Matthew Nance was unhurt after his car flipped on lap 16, triggering the race's final caution. ... Carolina Clash Series points leader and winner of March's Red Rose Rumble season opener at Lancaster Motor Speedway, Ben Watkins retired on lap 16 as well, finishing 13th. ... A multicar incident occurred on a lap-12 restart, ending the nights for Michael Brown, Ross Bailes, Ethan Wilson, Haiden Cowan, Jeff Smith and Anthony Sanders. Track officials took over 10 minutes to cleanup the mess. … Two-time defending Buck Simmons Memorial event winner Zack Mitchell completed only seven laps and finished 22nd. ... Friday's feature lasted over 40 minutes with nine drivers completing all 41 laps. ... Originally scheduled to pay $5,000-to-win, Friday’s Buck Simmons Memorial received a $2,500 increase courtesy of Brett Coltman at Coltman Farms Racing. … The Carolina Clash Series concludes its weekend doubleheader with Saturday's $5,000-to-win show at Cherokee Speedway.
