Franklin, a former Southern All Star Series champion, earned his first career series victory, worth $3,000.
Quotable: "I'm speechless. I hate that for Ashton. ... I don't know how to act to be honest with you," Franklin said. "I'm kind of shocked. I mean, we were really good. Ashton is one of the best drivers in the country. I couldn't keep up with him. ... This is big. This might be my last year (racing Supers), like full time."
Key notes: Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., paced 29 of 30 laps and crossed the finish line 7.036 seconds ahead of Franklin before being light at the scales. … Dalton Cook of Columbus, Ga., scored a runner-up finish in the 30-lapper from the 10th-starting position. ... Hometown driver Bo Slay rounded out the podium in third. ... Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, Fla. — son of Bubba Raceway Park owner and radio personality Bubba Clem — finished sixth in his return to Super Late Model competition aboard Big Frog Motorsports' No. 58. ... Polesitter Ryan Crane of Panama City, Fla., finished 13th after a lap-three spin thwarted him from running third in the early going. ... In his second career Super Late Model start, Kendall Franklin of Calera, Ala. — son of race winner Billy Franklin — finished 17th. ... Series points leader Caleb Gay of Dublin, Ga., finished 21st after being collected in a multicar pileup on lap two. ... The 30-lap feature was slowed by five cautions and lasted 32 minutes. ... The sixth annual Battle at the Beach culminates with Saturday’s 50-lap, $10,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start main event, the richest SAS event at Southern in series history. … Watch live on RaceXR.
