Ashton Winger collected $2,500 for winning Friday's second round of the 47th annual East Bay Winter Nationals.
What won the race: Eighth-starting Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., utilized the high line and took the lead on lap 22 when Andy Nezworski got caught in lapped traffic, pacing the final nine circuits and topping the Crate Racin' USA Winter Shootout field to win Friday's $2,500 second round of the 47th annual East Bay Winter Nationals.
Quotable: "I tell you East Bay is bad ass, I hate that we're not at Brunswick but we kinda got behind on some things and you gotta have all your ducks in a row to race with them guys," Winger said. "Man we love this place. It's hard to pass this place 20 minutes from the shop now."
Key notes: Polesitter Andy Nezworski, of Blue Grass, Iowa, led laps three through 21 before settling for the runner-up position, 4.584 seconds back. ... Hayden Cardwell hugged the low line around East Bay to advance four positions and finished third. ... Winner of Thursday's $2,500 opener Cory Hedgecock finished fourth. ... Austin Yarbrough gained seven spots and finished fifth. ... Trevor Collins advanced eight spots and finished sixth. ... Second-starting Randy Weaver led the first two laps before fading to finish 10th. ... Friday's feature was slowed by four cautions and lasted 27 minutes, with 14 competitors completing all 30 laps. ... The 47th annual East Bay Winter Nationals concludes with Saturday's $5,000-to-win finale for the Crate Racin' USA Winter Shootout Series.
On the move: Joshua Bishop of Statesboro, Ga., started 25th and finished ninth.
