Mike Marlar heads to victory Saturday at Ponderosa.
What won the race: Finishing 1.047 seconds ahead of polesitter Tanner English, fellow front-row starter Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., won Saturday’s Valvoline Iron-Man Series-sanctioned Big Daddy Classic at Ponderosa Speedway. Marlar picked up $10,088 for the victory, his second career Iron-Man triumph.
Key notes: Saturday’s race was part of Ponderosa’s 32nd annual Fall Classic weekend and co-sanctioned by the Valvoline Iron-Man sister tours. … Marlar, who also won the 2009 and 2017 Fall Classic, became the event’s first three-time winner. ... It’s his 10th overall win of 2022. … English of Benton, Ky., who won Friday's $5,000 opener, was the meat in a Marlar brothers sandwich on Saturday as he finished behind Mike and in front of Camaron, who won the 2020 Fall Classic. … Ten of the 21 starters completed all 50 laps. ... No driver on the lead lap improved or lost more the one position. … Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., finished eighth and was able to extend his points lead in both the Iron-Man Northern Series and the Iron-Man Southern Series. … Eli Beets, Victor Lee, Steve Smith, Austin Neely, Steve Godsey and Roy Petrey entered Friday’s opener but did not return for Saturday’s race.
