Chase Edge won the Showdown on the Coast finale.
What won the race: After an early battle, polesitter Chase Edge of Lafayette, Ala., overtook fellow front row starter Matt Henderson of Loudon, Tenn., on lap 14, leading the remaining distance for a $2,500 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series victory in Golden Isles Speedway's Showdown on the Coast.
Quotable: “We really felt like we had the car to beat all weekend, and although we had trouble while we were leading last night, we were trouble free tonight and the car was just awesome to drive,” Edge said. “We had a good race with Matt early on and I enjoyed racing with him because it was a clean battle.”
Key notes: Edge has two NeSmith series victories on the season. His last came at East Alabama Motor Speedway on July 4. ... The race was slowed by three cautions. ... Steven Roberts drew the first yellow on lap 24 when his No. 111 stalled on the racetrack. ... Ryan Crane spun in turn two to draw a caution on lap 34. ... The final yellow flew on lap 44 when Michael Blount spun on the backstretch. ... The race was the second of the NeSmith tour's two-day Showdown on the Coast weekend. ... Sixth-place finisher Ronnie Johnson was the winner of Friday's event. ... The tour wraps up its season Nov. 21-22 with a $10,000-to-win event at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla.
On the move: Mitchell Coble of Mount Airy, N.C. advanced from the 10th starting spot to finish seventh.
Points chase: With his eighth series victory of 2014 on Friday, Johnson clinched the NeSmith points championship. Chris Noah of Rainbow City, Ala., is the tour's Rookie of the Year.
