Jimmy Owens waves the checkers at Volunteer Speedway.
What won the race: Narrowly turning back a late challenge from Jonathan Davenport, Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., completed a flag-to-flag victory in Thursday's 50-lap FloRacing Night in America feature at a racy Volunteer Speedway. The pole-starting Owens earned a $20,000 payday for his first win of the 2026 and the third of his career on the national tour.
Key notes: Owens's triumph snapped a nearly year-long winless drought for the 54-year-old with his most recent victory coming on Nov. 1, 2025 at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. His last FloRacing Night win came on Oct. 11, 2022, at 411 Motor Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. ... Davenport overtook Chris Madden for second following a lap-45 restart and caught Owens shortly thereafter but settled for runner-up money. His final bid fell just .002 of a second short at the checkered flag. ... Hudson O'Neal slipped by Madden to finish third heading to the finish line. ... The scheduled 50-lap feature actually ran 51 laps due to a scoring malfunction in the final circuits. FloRacing Series director Ben Shelton said the tour's rulebook, which mirrors the Lucas Oil Series, states that the race is official with the waving of the checkered flag and the payoff is based on the finishing order at that point. ... Devin Moran settled for a 16th place result after suffering a flat tire while running sixth with five laps remaining. ... After breaking a driveshaft during heat race action, provisional starter Ryan Gustin tagged the tail of the field and climbed as high as 13th but retired on lap 39. ... The feature was slowed by five cautions. ... Jeff Maupin slowed on lap six and was the race's first retiree. ... Garrett Alberson made hard contact with the turn one wall and rolled to a halt on lap 34 with right-side damage. ... East Tennessee's Noah Phillips debuted a Longhorn Chassis but slowed with a flat tire that ended his night prematurely. He was credited with 22nd. ... Nick Hoffman and Barrett Lowe tangled on the front stretch to bring out the yellow flag on lap 15. Hoffman subsequently spun into the infield tire barrier on the backstretch when attempting to pull his Tye Twarog-owned mount into the pit area. … Volunteer was recently rumored to be sold and no longer operate as a racetrack following Thursday’s event; though those reports have not been confirmed, the track's future appears clouded, at best.
On the move: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., started 12th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Owens’s Rocket Chassis was powered by a Vic Hill engine and carries sponsorship from McCarter Brothers Racing, McCarter Farms, Hodges Farms & Dredging, Hommel Excavating, Elite Ready Mix, Capital Waste, Red Line Synthetic Oil, Fastlane Signs & Graphics, Fox Shocks, Midwest Sheet Metal and GoSunoco Race Fuels.
Points chase: Before Volunteer: 1. Brandon Sheppard (549); 2. Hudson O’Neal (528); 3. Devin Moran (510); 4. Bobby Pierce (471); 5. Nick Hoffman (441); 6. Tyler Erb (387); 7. Ricky Thornton Jr. (366); 8. Kyle Bronson (327); 9. Dennis Erb Jr. (296); 10. Dan Ebert (293).
