What won the race: Outdueling Eli Ross of Muskogee, Okla., in the final laps of the Spooky 50, Shane Hebert of Lafayette, La., made an outside pass to lead the final five laps Saturday at Super Bee Speedway for a $5,000 Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series victory. Hebert's second series victory came 0.351 of a second ahead of Ross, who dominated most of the race before falling to Hebert in a bid for his first MSCCS victory.
Quotable: "He's 17 years old and I'm 47, so I've been around a little longer than him. He's gonna be really good, I can tell you that. He can rip that lip like I never could. So he's gonna be something to see here before long," Hebert said, adding that "I just needed him to really pick that lane really low where he would slow up his entry in the center (of the corner). Once I seen him start committing to the tires, I knew that was my shot."
Key notes: Shane Hebert, the co-owner of Sabine Speedway in Many, La., went around Eli Ross with five laps to go in making the winning move. ... The first yellow appeared on the eighth lap with contact between Slay and Mike Palasini Jr. triggered trouble between turns one and two. ... On the 10th lap, Dakota Smith spun in turn three. ... Smith's car went up in smoke on the 31st lap. ... Friday's first-time series winner Jon Mitchell, running fifth, slowed with a right-rear flat tore on the 35th lap. ... The 26-minute feature concluded at 11:44 p.m. ... Nine cars were running at the finish. ... Brett Frazier scratched because of mechanical problems in Friday's event.
