What won the race: Utilizing the outside lane on the initial start, outside polesitter Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., led all 40 laps at Spoon River Speedway on Sunday, topping the MARS Racing Series field for $5,000 as part of the 32nd annual Plowboy Nationals. The victory was the 15th of Feger's career with the MARS tour and his fourth in 13 series events this season, including a sweep at Spoon River.
Quotable: "Hats off to Brad and the crew here," Feger said. "A lot of guys could've called it quits (after rain during qualifying) and it's a tough situation for everyone, but they stuck it out and the track was in good shape. Glad we stuck around for it."
Key notes: Late-arriving Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., was spared by the long weather delay, allowing him to unload before qualifying and finish in the runner-up spot, 0.597 of a second back. ... Taylor Scheffler of Waukesha, Wis., moved into the third position on lap 19 and rounded out the podium. ... Polesitter Logan Moody of Catlin, Ill., failed to lead a lap and finished fourth. ... After winning Friday's $10,000 series stop at Farmer City, Mike Spatola of Manhattan, Ill., caused the race's last caution on lap 29 and finished eighth. ... Bobby Pierce, Brian Shirley, Billy Moyer and Tim Lance were among drivers who loaded up and departed following a lengthy weather delay. Pierce apologized to fans on social media, sharing his concerns about the difficulty of racing in such conditions with four nights of racing coming up at Ohio's Eldora Speedway for the World 100 week. ... Sunday's feature, the fifth-ever visit to Spoon River for the MARS tour, was slowed by three cautions and lasted 15 minutes, with eight drivers completing all 40 laps.
On the move: Matt Santel of New Memphis, Ill., started 13th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Pro Power engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Hoker Trucking, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Digital Copy Systems, RLM Enterprises, Rosser Battery, Remtek Enterprises, Speedwerx, Cheap Cars and Griffin Signs.
