Tanner English edges Bobby Pierce at the finish line at Davenport Speedway on Friday, winning his first career World of Outlaws feature and $10,000.
What won the race: Eighteenth-starting Tanner English of Benton, Ky., went ninth-to-third on the lap 27 restart, before tiptoeing around the bottom of Davenport Speedway on Friday, nipping Bobby Pierce at the line and earning his first career World of Outlaws Case Late Models Series feature victory, along with $10,000. The series rookie led only the final lap.
Quotable: "It's pretty awesome, you know, it's been a long time coming. I've been trying to get one of these national wins for a long time and I've been real close, just never got one," English said with tears in his eyes. "To do it like that is pretty awesome. That's the way I feel like I come through every race, start way back and come up through the field there and I think we made the right call on tires and it just paid off."
Key notes: Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., led laps eight through 39, before coming up 0.235 seconds short to English. ... Defending event winner Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, pressured Pierce in the closing laps and finished third. ... Fellow rookie contender Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., finished fourth. ... Polesitter Ashton Winger of Senoia, Ga., led the first seven laps before fading to finish fifth. ... World of Outlaws Late Model Series point leader Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., finished sixth. ... After running as high as second place in the early laps, Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, faded to finish seventh. ... After winning Thursday's $10,000 weekend opener, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., finished 16th. ... The race was slowed by two cautions and lasted 15 minutes, with 22 competitors completing 40 laps. ... The Quad City 150 weekend tripleheader concludes on Saturday with 70-lap, $30,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Tanner English of Benton, Ky., started 18th and finished first.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Updates and results from Friday's second round of the Quad Cities 150 presented by Hoker Trucking at Davenport Speedway, highlighted by a $10,000-to-win event on the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series (results unofficial):

Tanner English of Benton, Ky., earned his first career World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series feature victory at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway on Friday, the second event of the Quad Cities 150 weekend tripleheader. English steadily moved forward from this 18th starting position and took advantage of a restart on lap 27, moving from ninth to third. English utilized the extreme bottom groove while pursuing leaders Bobby Pierce and Devin Moran as they began to hit lapped traffic in the closing laps.  English was able to clear Moran for second place on lap 39, before edging Pierce by 0.235 seconds at the line, in a photo finish. Pierce led laps eight through 39 before English executed his surprise attack for the $10,000 victory.
