Brandon Overton and Schaeffer Oil rep Ed Lowe in Toccoa victory lane.
What won the race: Despite a 55-minute feature plagued by 13 cautions and despite damage to his car from earlier in the night, Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led all 67 laps to win the Schaeffer's Southern Nationals stop Tuesday at Toccoa Raceway. Overton's $10,067 victory came 1.591 seconds ahead of Kenny Collins.
Quotable: "Man, I don't know. I didn't get to work on my car in between the heat. I knocked the whole ass end off of it; messed it all up. We barely got back out here,” Overton said. “Maybe I should start trying that approach. It was pretty good. I love coming here. Wish it was a 40-lapper where we could have gotten after it and raced a little bit. Hell, it is what it is. I just love coming back home and racing, seeing all the people I grew up around."
Key notes: Brandon Overton earned his 11th overall win of 2022 and 21st career series win at the Toccoa track that hosted Super Late Models for the first time in four years. Toccoa also celebrated its 67th anniversary with the richest payout in track history and richest among the 2022 Southern Nationals tour. ... Parker Martin of Milledgeville, Ga., finished a career-best third in the Super Late Model. ... Cory Hedgecock (fourth), Cla Knight (fifth), Wil Herrington (sixth), Will Roland (seventh) and Jensen Ford (eighth) all rebounded from in-race issues to salvage top-10 finishes. ... Carson Ferguson of Lincolnton, N.C., surrendered the runner-up spot on lap four when he retired from the race with mechanical issues.
On the move: Wil Herrington of Cochran, Ga., started 15th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Overton’s Wells Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Race Engine and sponsored by CrossFit Overton, E-Z-Go, Big Dog Stump & Tree, R.W. Powell Construction, Angry Elephant Tattoos & Piercings, Convenient Lube, Dirt Mafia, Allstar Performance, Penske Racing Shocks, Hoosier by Brian and Topnotch Kustom Koncepts.
