Chris Madden and crew celebrate their 13th win of 2022 Thursday at I-80.
What won the race: Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., topped his dominant foe of the 2022 season, Jonathan Davenport, to win Thursday's Dirt Track Bank Go 50 at I-80 Speedway. Madden led all 50 laps from the outside pole for the $12,000 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory, his 13th of 2022.
Quotable: “At that moment of the race when I split those lapped cars I was too tight and it was breaking my momentum going into three,” Madden said. “I just wasn’t carrying enough corner speed. I had to back off there and set them up at the right time to make the right move (and pull away from Davenport).”
Key notes: Chris Madden's victory — his fourth Lucas Oil win of 2022 and the 17th of his career on the tour — came by 1.925 seconds over Jonathan Davenport, who started fifth and couldn't quite get close enough to attempt a pass for the win after reaching second on lap 14. ... Bobby Pierce ripped through the field in a 20th-to-third drive; he overtook Mike Marlar for third coming to the white flag. ... The race was slowed once, on lap 21, for fourth-running Kyle Bronson's blown left-rear tire. ... The event kicked off what's expected to be the track's final Silver Dollar Nationals weekend with the track's sale apparently imminent. ... After Thursday's standalone seires event, Friday's action includes double heat races for the Silver Dollar Nationals while Saturday is capped by the $53,000-to-win, $5,300-to-start finale.
On the move: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., started 20th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: The Chris Madden Racing Rocket Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Drydene Performance Products, Franklin Enterprises, Henderson Amusement, Millwood Plumbing, Pyramid Materials, Davis Diesel Service, Worley Monument, VP Racing Fuels, Penske Racing Shocks and Hoosier Racing Tire.
