Bobby Pierce heads to a $10,000 victory in Paducah, Ky.
What won the race: Winning his tour-leading fourth race, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., led all 30 laps Friday at Paducah International Raceway for a $10,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory. Pierce won by 5.120 seconds over polesitting Tanner English in front of a big crowd enjoying the 3/8-mile track's first tour event in nine years.
Key notes: Pierce has 44 career Summer Nationals victories. ... Terry English finished fifth in his first series start since 2018. ... Jason Feger pitted three times for various issues but soldiered to a seventh-place finish. ... Three cautions slowed the action, including on the 13th lap when Brent McKinnon spun in turn two. ... On the third lap, Jack Riggs got into the turn-two wall and triggered a multicar pileup; fast qualifier Payton Freeman was among retirees. ... A lap-two caution appeared when Dylan Thompson got sideways in turn four after making contact with Billy Moyer Jr., collecting Brian Shirley. ... Dusty conditions plagued hot laps and time trials and the track was reworked before heat races. .... PIR owners Adam and Brittany Elliott reopened the track shuttered since 2018 and most of the last six seasons.
On the move: Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., started 11th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce’s Pierce Race Car is sponsored by Hoker Trucking, Allgayer Inc., Rio Grande Waste Services, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing & Repair, Extreme Electric, Toyota of Danville, Quality Paint & Body, Base Racing Fuels, Senior Life Insurance and the Vermilion County Bobcats.
