Mark Whitener celebrates his $10,000 victory at Magnolia.
What won the race: Sneaking ahead of race-long leader Spencer Hughes following a lap-51 caution, fifth-starting Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., raced to the $10,000 Crate Racin’ USA victory on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway. He finished 0.415 seconds ahead of polesitter Hughes.
Key notes: Fast qualifier Hughes of Meridian, Miss., ended up second after pacing the field for the first 50 laps. … The pair exchanged multiple sliders as they swapped the lead over the final 21 circuits. … Whitener scored his second $10,000 Crate Racin' USA victory of the season after winning at Boothill Speedway in late October. … Series point leader Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., retired on lap 57. … The Crate Racin’ USA tour visited Magnolia Motor Speedway for a two-day, $10,000-to-win program.
