The winning car of Rodney Sanders at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.
What won the race: Officially leading every lap in a race where Jake Timm wrecked violently after briefly taking the lead, Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas, captured his first career DiscountShopTowels.com Dirt Kings Tour victory, earning $3,000 in the Firecracker 40 at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.
Key notes: Winner Rodney Sanders got engaged to girlfriend Morgan McMann earlier in the week. ... Jake Timm chased winner Sanders in second most of the way and briefly took the lead on lap 25, but a flipping frontstretch accident amid traffic ended his run; he walked away apparently uninjured and competed later in the modified division. .... Timm entered turn four on the inside of a four-wide battle with Sanders and two lapped cars. He took the lead at the flagstand just before going upside down after a lapped car nosed under the left side of Timm's machine. ... Sanders led the rest of the way. ... With three laps remaining, runner-up Jesse Glenz cut the Sanders lead down to 0.518 seconds but was unable to get closer. ... John Kaanta, Jayme Zidar and Jared Siefert didn't start the feature.
On the move: Brett Swedberg of Shawano, Wis., started 12th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Sanders drives an MB Customs Car sponsored by Wichita Tank Racing, Keith Hammett Trucking & Transportation, Texas Locomotive Solutions, Paulson Rock Products, Stussy Construction, Integra Shocks, ARMI and Mesilla Valley Transportation.
Points chase: Entering the event, Nick Anvelink had 228 points to led Ron Berna (224), Brett Swedberg (200), Justin Ritchie (200) and Troy Springborn (182).
Current weather: Clear, 70°F
