Icebreaker postponed

Citing safety concerns for competitors due to rough track conditions that contributed to three rollover accidents during qualifying events, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Brownstown Speedway officials postponed the remainder of Saturday night’s Indiana Icebreaker to Sun., May 2.

The decision came after the driver who races under the pseudonym Fast Eddy of Lebanon, Ohio, flipped wildly during the first of two B-mains and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. According to a social media post by the Lucas Oil Series, he was awake and alert when he left the track in an ambulance after safety crews removed him from his car.

Earlier in the program, Larry Greer of Bowling Green, Ky., rolled during the first heat and Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., flipped in the third prelim. Both drivers climbed from their cars under their power and did not appear to be injured.
