Christian Hanger celebrates his $3,000 North Alabama victory.
What won the race: Cruising to his second Crate Racin’ USA victory of the season, polesitter Christian Hanger of Winchester, Tenn., led flag-to-flag to win Sunday’s King of the Crates main event at North Alabama Speedway. Finishing 1.338 seconds ahead of fellow front row starter Oakley Johns, Hanger was never challenged in winning $3,000.
Quotable: “We’ve worked our tails off for this deal," said Hanger. "We came over here last year and didn’t qualify very good at all and had to come through a B-main and started I think 27th and came to second … hit (eventual winner) Jeremy Shaw in the tail there with about five to go and probably cost us the race. But we’ve picked up a little momentum here.”
Key notes: Hanger notched his 15th overall victory of 2020 and his second $3,000 victory of the weekend as he also won at Clayhill Speedway in Atwood, Tenn., on Saturday night. … His first series win this season came Oct. 9 at Talladega Short Track in Eastabooga, Ala. ... The race, which was cut from 60 laps to 50, was slowed by two cautions, a spin by Ben Brocato on lap three and a spin by Oakley Gillespie on lap 22. … Second-running Jaden Frame of Winchester, Tenn., gave up the runner-up spot when he pitted abruptly immediately following the lap-22 restart, with drivers scrambling behind him to avoid his slowing car. … Fifteen of the 24 starters finished the race with 11 completing all 50 laps. … The twice-postponed Crate Racin’ USA King of the Crates 60 was rained out just before qualifying on Sept. 12. … Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., won the 40-lap King of the Crate preliminary race at North Alabama on Sept. 11. … Jeremy Shaw of Millport, Ala., who won last year’s race finished sixth. … Jason Markewitz was driving Ohio driver and chassis builder Rusty Schlenk’s car. He finished 23rd.
On the move: Series leader Wil Herrington started 12th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Hanger’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Hanger’s Hardwood Flooring, H&W Custom Glass, Moore’s Lawn Care, Brucebilt Performance and Andy's Towing.
Points chase: Entering the event, Wil Herrington (1,194 points) of Hawkinsville, Ga., led Cruz Skinner. (1,070), Corey Dunn (1,062), T.J. Brittain (1,016) and Jody Knowles (968).
