What won the race: Taking advantage of a late-race caution and the leader's mechanical woes, Damian Patocka of Enid, Okla., inherited the top spot from Kip Hughes on a lap-18 restart and ran away from the field over the remainder of Friday's 25-lap Sooner Late Model Series feature at Outlaw Motor Speedway to capture a $1,000 victory.
Key notes: Patocka's ascension to the lead was set up by a yellow flag on lap 18 for Hayden Ross. On the restart Hughes lost power in turn four and coasted to the infield, handing Patocka the top spot for good. ... It was Patocka's second series victory of the season. ... The 11th-starting Hughes charged forward to take the lead from race-long pacesetter Zach Nickell on lap eight before the mechanical trouble doomed him to an eighth-place finish. Hughes had won three of the last four series events. ... Friday marked the tour’s first race at the Oktaha, Okla., speed plant that is typically a modified stronghold.
Points chase: Entering the event, Kip Hughes (2,895 points) of Enid, Okla., led Hayden Ross (2,450), Eddie Tidwell (2,315), Wayne Bush (2,015) and Damian Patocka (1,970).
