Brandon Williams celebrates at Thunderhill Raceway Park.
What won the race: Brandon Williams of Crossville, Tenn., took the lead from fellow front-row starter Corey Dunn on lap two of Saturday's King of the Hill feature at Thunderhill Raceway and cruised to a $7,500 victory on the Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series.
Quotable: "I knew Page and Hanger were right on my tail in lapped traffic, so I knew on the restarts, I only had a few laps until I caught the lapped cars," Williams said. "I raced as hard as I could until I caught the lapped cars and had a little breathing room to get around them. My car handled well enough that I could go to the outside to get through the traffic.”
Key notes: Williams added his name to the first time winners list this year, cruising to collect the large payday by 1.421 seconds over Michael Page of Douglasville, Tenn. ... The $7,500-to-win event offered the largest payday on this year's Crate Racin' USA tour thus far. ... Three-time series winner in 2020, Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., finished fourth. ... After earning the pole starting position on Friday, Corey Dunn of Milledgeville, Ga., was only able to complete 30 laps and finished 23rd. … The feature lasted nearly 30 minutes with the top-15 finishers completing all 60 laps. ... Williams joins Herrington, Dunn, Cruz Skinner, Cody Overton and Dylan Knowles as series winners this year.
On the move: Eric Hickerson of Linden, Tenn., started 16th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Williams' Capital Race Car is sponsored by Jeff Woods Construction, Harrison Construction, AutoZone of Crossville, A-Plus Fasteners, BruceBilt and B&R Kustoms.
