Jason Covert takes the checker at the Junior Eckert Memorial.
What won the race: Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., took advantage of Wyatt Scott's misfortune, then held off hard-charging polesitter Max Blair to capture Friday's inaugural Junior Eckert Memorial at Trail-Way Speedway. He earned $6,000 for his third career Zimmer's United Late Model Series victory.
Quotable: “I knew Junior,” Covert said in victory lane. “You always smiled when you were around him. He meant a lot to the racing community. To win that memorial race absolutely ranks among the top five wins in my life. We had to earn it there."
Key notes: Wyatt Scott was out front on lap 26 when he pulled to the infield, handing the lead to Covert; Scott ended up 15th. ... Two late cautions set up Covert-Blair showdowns with Covert hanging on to win by 0.616 seconds at the checkers. ... Several early cautions plagued the feature, including four before a single lap was completed. ... Gregg Satterlee was running fourth when he retired on lap 16. ... Seven drivers completed 50 laps. ... The race honored the late father of National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Rick Eckert.
Winner's sponsors: Covert’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by PhiVTech Solutions, Downs Plumbing and Septic, Hall’s HVAC, TW Bentley Mobile, Duck’s Automotive, FryeCo, Keyser Mfg., and Cameron Construction.
