Johnny Scott takes the checkers for his victory in Salina, Okla.
What won the race: Claiming his second Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory during a four-day stretch, sizzling Johnny Scott of Las Cruces, N.M., overtook second-starting Terry Phillips before halfway in the ARMI Freedom Classic finale at Salina Highbanks Speedway on Saturday to pick up $5,000. He took the checkers ahead Phillips and Tony Jackson Jr.
Quotable: "We tried some stuff tonight which put us a little bit behind because we were too tight in time trials, but it worked out for us," Scott said. "I didn't know how the track was going to end up, but whatever they did watering it made it pretty racey or good enough to pass anyway for a few laps. I told my crew guy to make a few little changes there before the feature, and this thing came alive.”
Key notes: Scott won Wednesday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., and also had two runner-up finishes in the four-race MLRA stretch ... A nine-car pileup at the outset of Saturday's 40-lapper eliminated Jeremy Grady. ... xxxx. ... Payton Looney won Friday's 30-lapper at Salina for his first career MLRA victory.
On the move: Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., started 21st and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Scott's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Mullins Race Engine and sponsored by Mesilla Valley Transportation, Rancho Milagro, Intercomp, Boller Motorsports, Maxima Racing Oils, Top of the World Ranch, VP Racing Fuels, Eagle Moon Farms, Wehrs Machine and Vanderbuilt.
