What won the race: Inheriting the lead on lap 49 when race-long leader Joseph Joiner and second-running Wil Herrington got together with a lapped car, Cruz Skinner of Oxford, Ala., led the final two circuits to win Saturday’s Crate Racin’ USA main event at Tri-County Speedway. Skinner earned $3,000 for his first series win of the season.
Key notes: Skinner finished 1.215 seconds ahead of Cody Overton of Grovetown, Ga. … Joiner, of Milton, Fla., led the first 48 laps from the pole but ran into trouble while trying to lap teammate Jesse Enterkin of Milton. As Herrington, of Hawkinsville, Ga., and Joiner split Enterkin, Enterkin and Joiner made contact, collecting Herrington. Herrington and Enterkin were finished, while Joiner pitted to change a flat tire and returned to finish ninth. … Eleven of the 24 starters completed all 50 laps. … During the lap-48 caution, Bo Slay of Milton, lost a wheel, giving up the third position. … The race was slowed by seven cautions. ... Friday’s CRUSA event at Tri-County was rained out. … Track officials bumped the purse to a $3,000-to-win event for Saturday rather than $2,500. … It was the tour’s first-ever visit to Tri-County and its lone stop at the Alabama oval this season.
On the move: Steven Jernigan of Milton, Fla., started 18th and finished third.
Points chase: After Tri-County, Cody Overton (288 points) of Grovetown, Ga., leads Cruz Skinner (278), Parker Martin (256), Wil Herrington (246) and Jody Knowles (242).
