Tanner English heads to victory Friday at Clarksville.
What won the race: Taking the lead from Josh Putnam on lap 12, Tanner English of Benton, Ky., led the last 14 laps to win Friday’s 16th annual Tuckassee Toilet Bowl opener at Clarksville Speedway. English earned $3,000 for winning the event’s opener, affectionately known as Plunger Night.
Quotable: “Josh jumped out there pretty early. (He) had pretty good car,” said English. “He was pretty fast there and when we got to the lapped traffic he had to move to the top and I think he was just a little bit too tight to run the top. He got in there and shoved a few times and then got over the berm a little bit and I snuck by him.”
Key notes: Tanner English finished 0.881 of a second ahead of Josh Putnam in the caution-free main event. … It was English’s first career victory during Toilet Bowl weekend and first win since joining Harrisburg, Ill.-based Riggs Motorsports in the offseason. Despite his prowess at Clarksville, he’d never won an opening night feature nor the finale. … Twenty of the 21 starters finished with 12 completing all 25 laps. … Putnam of Florence, Ala., was vying for his second special event win in as many races. He won the $4,000 Bama Brawl at Fort Payne (Ala.) Motor Speedway on Feb. 23. … Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., finished third in his Clarksville debut. … Fourth-place finisher Booger Brooks of Chattanooga, Tenn., was again piloting Jason Welshan’s No. 29. … Former Toilet Bowl winners occupied finishing positions 5-7: fifth-place finisher Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill. (2013); sixth-placed David Seibers of Chapel Hill, Tenn. (2019); and seventh-placed Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill. (’18, ’17, ’11). … Friday’s program was delayed a couple of hours due to passing rain showers. … The Super Late Model feature went green at 12:45 a.m. … Jesse Lowe of Crossville, Tenn., won the Crate Late Model feature. … Clayton Miller of Elkton, Ky., won Friday’s 602 Late Model feature. … David Gentry of Murfreesboro, Tenn., won the street stock main event. … Action continues Saturday afternoon with a $5,000-to-win finale for Super Late Models.
Winner's sponsors: English’s Riggs Motorsports Rocket Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine and is sponsored by Riggs Drilling Solutions, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil and Allstar Performance.
